Staying Motivated in March
The statistics tell us that by now over half of us have abandoned our New Year’s Resolutions. Winter is supposed to be wrapping up but spring seems a long ways away. Roads are dirty, grass is brown, and you begin surfing the net for deals to tropical destinations. March has to be one of the toughest months for motivation. Here are a few tips that can put some spring in your late winter step.
1. Buy a good How-To Book
Go to the bookstore and find a book on an area of personal development. Whether it be leadership, time management, success, finding your passion or goal setting. The choices are endless. The simple act of sharpening your own saw has motivating power.
2. Revisit your goals
Take a look at the goals you set in January and re-commit to them. If this seems counter motivational then set some new goals that you can accomplish by the end of April. Specific, measurable, short-term goals set properly are like that coffee in the morning; they get you going again.
3. Take a day off
I don’t mean so you can catch up on errands. Take a day and play. Go to the movies, head for the hills, have an overnight retreat in a hotel with friends. The point is, go and have some fun.
4. Get your taxes done
Nothing hangs over our heads like undone taxes. Pick a day (the sooner the better) and knock this one off, especially if you are expecting a return. Knowing how much money you have coming to you will be motivational for sure.
5. Sign-up for a course or register for a conference
Much like the How-To Book, personal development is motivating. It shakes us out of our doldrums. A course or conference is a great way to get started.
6. Book your summer vacation
If you have not already done so, finalize and book your summer vacation. Having your holidays set gives you something to look forward to.
7. Revisit how your life makes a difference in the lives of others.
If you are a manager, don't forget all of the ways in which you make a difference in the people's lives you lead. A good boss makes life better. A lot of managers forget that they really do make a difference. Recognize that and recommit to excellence in your leadership.
8. If your not in shape, start now, even if it is only something small.
Winter inactivity starts to really show around the waistline this time of year. Find a way to get your self back into the gym. Hire a trainer if you have to, but set some fitness goals and get at it.
Whatever you do just do something. Winter will not end any sooner by staying unmotivated. Get through March and the rest of the year becomes a lot easier.
